Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition – PC Review

Probably one of the most anticipated games of the year for me. Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, by devs Nightdive Studios and Apogee Software, is an insane first-person shooter that was first released back in 1994 for the PC. I'm a Freight Train O' Death The reason that I got excited at this remastered 4K version was not only for all of the included content, but for the nostalgia that it was hopefully going to bring back to me. Back in the 90's my PC could just about run Rise of the Triad using MS-DOS. Furthermore, I had fond memories of my father playing it constantly due to the multiple weapons, gore and intricate puzzle-solving level design. You have to remember that back then, these kinds of games were still groundbreaking. The market for 3D shooters was on the rise followin...

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy – PC Review

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is the latest in the Trine series, the first being released in 2009 by developers Frozenbyte. The game was released on 31st August 2023 available on all platforms. We received an invite to see what makes the game tick so we jumped at the chance. Let's delve back into the Trine universe and see what's in store! Wakey, Wakey. Rise and Trine! When Trine was released in 2009 I remember it being a well-made side-scrolling action adventure. This game however had a unique feature - the ability to control all three characters consecutively. The ability to swap from agile thief to lumbersome but tough knight instantaneously had me excited at the time. Who else remembers the previous games from the Trine series? Leave a comment below with your memories of the games....

Tenebris Pictura – Xbox Review

The world is a weird and wonderful place, and Pentadimensional has taken a slice of the weird and wonderful and captured in Tenebris Pictura. What do I really know about the paranormal, the fifth dimension or out of body experiences? Well not a lot, well I say that there was this one time when me and this girl were..... I think I'll leave that there. So time to strap on my big boy pants and enter the world where all is not as it seems. I'm sure that the padded cell can wait for me a little longer. Tenebris Pictura - What even does it mean? Google Translate Anyone? The look of Tenebris Pictura has definitely got my excitement levels up. It has a certain Lovecraftian feel to it that I really like. Hopefully, the gameplay will live up to my expectations. I have just drawn a huge pentagram a...

Full Void – PC Review

Cinematic platformers are a rare find. Lost relics of gaming past, they are a sub-genre that only surfaces sporadically; very few games are classified as such to date. Even less that truly tap into the feel of ‘90s titles like Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee/Exoddus, Heart of Darkness and Another World. I myself spent many hours on the former two as a kid - dying many and sundry times, of course. So when one comes along that does, it immediately gets my attention. Full Void by OutOfTheBit Ltd is one such game. This pixel art platformer paints a bleak (and perhaps now not so outrageously farfetched) picture of a grim future. A rogue A.I. has taken over a sprawling city and controls mankind. Menacing machines now patrol the dilapidated streets and alleys. The only hope lies in a runaway teenage b...

Red Dead Redemption – PS4 Review

In May of 2010, Rockstar released their incredibly popular Wild West meets GTA, Red Dead Redemption. Initially released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption and the DLC Undead Nightmares returns over a decade later for fans of the beloved action-adventure game and its sequel. Now available for £39.99 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, fans can relive their wildest Western antics and see how this port holds up. It's Time To Hop Back In The Saddle Upon hearing about Red Dead Redemption's re-release, I was excited. I firmly believe that older games need re-releasing for newer consoles. Like many others, I was disappointed to learn that it is merely a port, not a remake or a remaster. Despite this, I was still excited to dive back in, especially after enjoying the original ...

Ashina The Red Witch – PS5 Review

The first game I played by solo indie dev Stranga Games was My Big Sister on PSVita. I loved its story, characters, and its replayability for alternate endings. Ashina The Red Witch is a canon prequel to that game and I've been eagerly awaiting its launch on PlayStation platforms. Ashina The Red Witch - No Life In The Afterlife Originally released on PC in June 2022, the console port arrives on August 25th, 2023 with the help of publisher Ratalaika Games. It will be available to play on PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch. Gameplay Players take on the role of Ashina who must journey into the afterlife to search for her sister Tena, and find a way back home. Along this journey, you meet a lot of characters and begin to piece together what has brought you to this mysterious realm. Exploring...

The Expanse A Telltale Series Episode 1 – PS5 Review

The Expanse is the first title since the rebirth of Telltale Games. They are continuing with the format of an episodic adventure that has worked well for them in the past. To The Brig or The Airlock Based on James S.A. Corey’s popular book series and TV show, The Expanse. Players can now explore this extraordinary world like never before, taking on the perspective of Camina Drummer. When it was announced that The Expanse was being made into a Telltale series it piqued my interest and went into my book of games to keep an eye on. Gameplay Just a heads up, the game's storyline takes place before the TV series, so it's unnecessary to watch the show to enjoy the game fully. It is up to you to make the story choices, your actions as Drummer will shape the world around you. Episode On...
