With the release of the Inzone H9 II back in August, we thought we’d see whether the previous iteration, the Sony Inzone H9, was still worth a purchase. So even with it’s bigger brother having been released, just what did this headset offer to a gamer who enjoys loud explosions, as well as clear music? Let’s find out.
I’m in the Inzone…ahem.
Costing a mere £199.99 on the Sony official website, you can class this headset as a bit of an investment. Is it really worth it, though? Is it worth such a high price point? We’ll give you the lowdown on the main features and then let you decide.
Design Features
Coming in black or white, we were lucky enough to get the colour that matches our lovely PlayStation 5 Pro. Getting up and running was easy, simply plug in the included USB dongle and turn the headset on, and away you go. This headset, whilst is designed for use on the PlayStation, can be used on the PC simply by sliding a little switch across. Then it’s the same, just plug and play.

So from an actual design standpoint, it’s curvy, like really curvy. With a nice wide headband cushion that is so soft it’ll give you plenty of comfort for those long gaming sessions. Then the soft leather ear pads ease any kind of pressure on your head. Giving you great sound insulation as well, these are super comfy to wear. With a fold-down microphone as well it is the complete gamer-centric headset. Ready to go when you are. Just flip it up to mute yourself.
Using their own expertise, Sony has created the Sony Inzone H9 with a diaphragm that has a unique shape. This allows it to produce some great high-frequency sounds. Aiding in an immersive gaming experience. One neat feature is that the ducts on the housing allow great control of low-frequency sounds, giving you some great, deep sounds. Those explosions on Call of Duty are going to be something else!
Spatial Audio
If you already own a PlayStation 5 you will know that it comes capable of 3D audio. The Sony Inzone H9 comes with 360-degree Spatial Sound for gaming, and it’s incredible. Being able to accurately locate enemies all around you gives you a head start when it comes to competitive gaming. So that you don’t miss important noises outside the headset, you can switch between ambient sound and noise cancelling at the press of a button. I prefer to have the ambient sounds coming through; it helps stop me from being too loud as well.

So what else is a gamer’s enemy? You’ve got other players in Call of Duty, you’ve got the other team on EA Sports FC 25. What we haven’t spoken about, though, is battery life. With this being a wireless headset, you are no doubt going to get a low battery message now and again. The great thing with this headset is that with a quick 10 minutes on charge, you can get up to an hour of gameplay. So you are never out of the game for too long.
Using this headset has been an absolute joy. I’m almost sad that this has to go back to Sony. Hopefully, though, we’ll get some hands-on with the newer model next.
Final Thoughts
Albeit a headset that has been out for a few years, it still holds up against some of the newer headsets out there. With some great features and a great soundscape, you will have plenty of long gaming sessions with the headset. Is it worth the retail price, though? That really depends, it depends on whether you fancy spending the extra £100 on the newer model, or just make do with the previous model. Unfortunately, I can’t spend your money.
The Sony Inzone H9 headset receives the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
