If you are a true gamer, then you probably play the odd game on your mobile device. Whether that’s a phone or a tablet, there are a multitude of devices designed to make it easier. The Razer Kishi Ultra is one of those devices.
God-Tier of Mobile Gaming
So what exactly is the Razer Kishi Ultra and at a price of £150 from the Razer store, how does it enhance your mobile gaming? Let’s take a look.
Design
Imagine a controller split in half. Then add a retractable area that pinches your devices between two bits of rubber. Then you kinda get the Kishi Ultra. At least that’s my poor description of it. With thumbsticks set out in the Xbox asymmetric layout, and face buttons that mirror the A, B, X and Y. The mobile controller ticks a lot of boxes. With bumpers and triggers that feel great to use.

In the box are a number of different rubber grommets. Each is designed for whatever device you’re using. Whether that’s Android, or iOS. Phone or Tablet. The Kishi Ultra can handle devices that are up to 8 inches diagonally. There’s even an option if you have a case on your devices. Although I found that my Iphone 16 Pro Max case was a little bit too big. I do have a good solid case though!
There is also a 3.5mm audio jack to connect headphones for that sweet game audio. Alternatively, if you want to do some completely wireless gaming, just connect a Bluetooth headset and off you go.
Features
Even though the Kishi Ultra is a relatively small device. It’s feature packed. Firstly, you don’t have to use it just as a mobile device. Using the USB C cable you can turn the device into a fully blown PC controller. Or even one for your iPad.
Once you’ve downloaded the Razer Nexus app to your device, it opens up a whole host of possibilities. I spent the vast majority of my time playing games from the Xbox GamePass on it. Bear in mind that the actual Cloud Gaming App isn’t released on iOS in the UK right now. There is a workaround though. If you open up the Razer Nexus App and link your Xbox account to your Razer account, it allows you to bypass this block and you can open the Cloud Gaming App ready to play all your favourite GamePass games.
I’ve not had the chance to connect my PlayStation 5 via remote play, but inside the Razer Nexus app there is an option for Remote Play. I expect that once I’ve finished writing this review I’ll go and check it out.

Unlock Everything
Using the Razer suite of apps, you can unlock a lot more features. From changing the chroma effects that adorn the grips of the Kishi Ultra, to remapping touch screen controls, to the buttons on the controller. Although this feature is only available on Android devices currently and so sadly I could not try these out.
There are two extra buttons on the device, just next to the bumpers. These can be remapped using advanced macros, or even essential commands. Just to make sure you get ahead of the game. Whether it’s used as a reload button on Call of Duty Mobile so you don’t have to lift your fingers off the thumbsticks, or even as a quick pickup button on Fortnite. It really helps to have the extra buttons.
If you have Windows 11, you can even unlock PC Remote Play. Just download the Razer Cortex app to your PC and you can stream games directly from your PC to your mobile device. It was definitely an experience to play through the PC on the small screen. Not quite an alternative to a Steam Deck, but it’s not that far off.
Final Thoughts
So what does all this mean? Well, quite frankly it’s a device that I can’t put down. It opens up so much more gaming experiences for me. Even simple games are better to play on the device. It expands on mobile gaming more than you can imagine, and I really hope that more and more mobile games make use of the compatibility.
All we need now is to get the Virtual Controller Mode on the iOS devices so I can play Genshin Impact with it!
The Razer Kishi Ultra receives the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
