Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos is a co-op chaotic twist on the cleaning simulation genre. It is currently in development by Rubens Games (Pool Cleaning Simulator) and FreeMind Games (House Builder, Aquarist) with publishing by FreeMind Games (aka FreeMind S.A.) and PlayWay S.A. (House Flipper, Serial Cleaner). The demo is available through Steam.
Not Quite the Cleanup I was Expecting
There are a lot of different simulator games out there. Over the years and having played different types here and there, I’ve learnt I enjoy ones that get me into a nice groove and calm state. Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos sounds a little more spicy than what I would usually pick up, but I couldn’t the chance to get an early look at it. The game did take some time for me to warm up to. Read on to for my thoughts about this demo preview.
Gameplay
In Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos, you and up to three of your friends (or enemies, no judgement here) are out to clean up the city. Or cause chaos. More likely a lot of both. Whether playing co-op or single player, kitties help you out while doing so. Or at least that’s what appears to be the case in the trailers – I never had a kitty companion during my playthrough. Despite my attempts and beyond picking one up for a key. And even then I only found said kitty after watching through the trailer again to see where it was!
I know this is just a demo version of Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos. But I do have to say that the most frustrating thing about it is that you cannot save the game. Each time you launch it you start from the beginning. This led to having to leave the game up and running when needing to step away for more than a few minutes. It’s also a bit stressful trying to get the huge list of tasks done in one sitting while playing solo.
It wasn’t until I gave Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos another shot that I was able to carry my knowledge from the previous run and into the new one that I found several things I had missed or overlooked. Then a playthrough again while writing this gave me the actual in-game clue to one of my struggles. I would thoroughly recommend watching the trailer a few times if you get stuck as I did during this demo.
Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos has your usual set of simulator traits when it comes to tools. A few of these tools are odd, like the felines, but others serve a purpose that may not be immediately clear. I don’t want to give too much away of what I found (having had to start over and over again), but it wasn’t until a few plays in that things began to click.
Graphics & Audio
The demo for Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos is only available Steam. Being only a demo there are only a few graphics options, and for my playthrough I didn’t change them from the default resolution and High Fidelity graphics settings. The style of the game suits it for being in the same realm as other cleaning simulators. The UI is overall fairly simple as well and shows key inputs and highlights just as many other simulators.
The current audio track is also very simple in Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos. I actually had to launch the game again to listen for it specifically. I could only hear some music in the menu, but in the level I didn’t hear it. If it was there it was very, very quiet. Otherwise the game includes your usual simple simulator sounds with some spoken dialogue.
Longevity
From the demo alone I am not sure where to rank Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos in the longevity area. From the trailers it appears that if there is enough game content to goof around in with friends. Hpwever, that all depends on how much content is already behind that demo wall and what all will be fully available when the game launches. There is no scheduled release date at this time but the Steam store page does have it appearing to be first going into early access. So with that I hope there’s plenty to play around with when launch day finally comes.
Final Thoughts
I did eventually warm up to Purrrifiers: Cleaning Chaos after some initial frustrating sessions with the demo. So if/when you check it out yourself, don’t worry if you find yourself in the same boat. Just take a break, maybe start again, and get back to it. But definitely bring some friends. I’ll be looking with hope for a release date sooner rather than later.
