LEGO Pokemon Brings The Fight

LEGO has recently been announcing new sets like crazy. With some of those sets being more exciting than others. One of the IP’s in that is Pokémon. With the LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball set, as well as LEGO Eevee, we have seen an exciting shift in LEGO’s favour. The real question, though, is just how good are these sets? Thankfully, LEGO sent us a couple of sets for us to build, and wow, we were impressed.

Who’s That Pokemon?

The third set of the Pokemon drop is a monster, with the final evolutions of the Kanto starters costing you near £700. That is, if you can find it!

Pikachu and Poke Ball #72152

Weighing in at 2050 pieces, priced at £179.99, this set depicts Pikachu being launched from a Poke Ball on a lightning shaped stand. If you don’t fancy having the sizeable stand on your shelves, then you can just have Pikachu with a closed Poke Ball. All you need to do is swap out a few parts and bobs your uncle. You can even swap out the tail parts to swap your Pikachu from a male to a female one.

I Choose You!

The build itself was very therapeutic, covering 16 bags you are guided through creating the body, then arms, legs, and then head. Watching your little buddy grow before your eyes was super enjoyable. Especially when we are so used to seeing his little red cheeks on a small screen. Once built the only down side for me was that Pikachu was always in a position where he or she is looking up. This could be good depending on the angle, but it would have been nice to have been able to position the angle a little more.

There are a couple of neat touches with the LEGO Pikachu set. For example, the studs on the display base form a 25, which is Pikachu’s Pokedex number. And the shape of the base is a direct representation of its electric type. All you need to do is decide where you are going to put the set once its completed. Measuring 35cm tall, 26m wide and 39cm deep it isn’t a small set, but where there is a will there is a way! Not gear up trainers, its time to go and pick up the LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball set!

Eevee #72151

The smaller of the two sets we were sent, at only 587 pieces the LEGO Eevee is super cute! Costing £54.99, it’s open to all sorts of budgets, and only 19cm tall you can manipulate Eevee to fit in any location. The build itself was incredibly straight forward. Body, arms, legs, tail and head. Straightforward and nothing else to it. Being highly poseable you can move every body part to get into the exact pose that you want. Along with the printed bricks for Eevees mouth, nose and eyes, as well as their little toe-beans.

Eevee fills me with so much joy

A really nice touch is the hidden easter egg. You will discover a neat little nod to the many Eevee Evolutions that exist. I spotted it straight away, and it gave me a lot of pleasure to recognise the colours on show.

It is no surprise that LEGO Eevee will be living on my desk from now on, on show and pride of place. I mean come on, who wouldnt get warm feelings in your jellies when you look at that cute smile.

Final Thoughts

LEGO has once again hit the jackpot with another IP in its quiver! The LEGO Pikachu and Poke Ball set and LEGO Eevee are joys to build. With some nice building steps as well as neat little features. Honestly, you need to pick these sets up if you are Pokemon fan. You won’t be disappointed.

These LEGO sets easily receive a Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
