Edifier R1280DB Review

If you are looking for upgrading your bookshelf speakers, you can’t go wrong with the Edifier R1280DB. A great set of speakers to adorn your shelf, desk, bookcase, anything really. They look great wherever they are placed!

So shall we check them out in a little bit of finer detail?

Not Quite Elf On The Shelf

As with every Edifier product, we absolutely love how they look and sound and I’ll give you this for free, the R1280DB are no different!

Design

The Edifier R1280DB are a standard-looking set of bookshelf speakers. The 100% MDF wood enclosure minimises the acoustic resonance, allowing for a better sound. You can pop the front off, and it greets with two 4-inch mid-range / bass drivers that create incredibly deep and rich lows, along with a pair of 0.5-inch treble drivers giving those clear and crisp highs.

Moving around to the back of the R1280DB and you are greeted with the multiple inputs available to you. A line in, coaxial and optical ports are all there for any connection, but also connecting to multiple devices if you so with. During my testing I had these plugged into my computer using a line in adapter straight to the 3.5mm headphone jack on my monitor.

On the side of the speaker there are three knobs allowing control over the treble and bass as well as volume. The volume knob also doubles as an input knob, giving it a little push switches between them. You also get a remote control that will do all the same controls, but from the comfort of wherever you want to sit.

Feature

Being bookshelf speakers, the Edifier R1280DB aren’t exactly feature rich, but instead focuses on getting the acoustic balance just right. With the 4 drivers units pumping out an impressive 42 watts (RMS) output, giving great room filling sound for any listening experience.

the speakers without their front covers on are just as good looking as with, showing off all 4 of the speaker drivers on the fronts and the wooden construction — Even undress the speakers look incredible!

As with all my headphones/earbuds/speaker testing, I head to the soundtrack playlist to see how the sound fills the room. Even at the louder end of the volume, the sound was crisp and clear with no distortion. They gave great audio quality even while listening to a heavier track where a lot is going on.

Allowing Bluetooth connection allows you to hook up your phone to play your music, allowing you to make use of these even without a bigger piece of kit connected. The connection was seamless and worked well.

Overall the Edifier R1280DB is an incredible sounding set of bookshelf speakers that offer great sound for a great price. At around £129.99 these are a great upgrade to your current setup and would look great adorning any location within your house.
