We love audio hardware here at TC, and when Edifier come calling and offering us a new piece of kit, we are the first to put our hands up! This was no different when they offered us the NeoBuds Pro 2! Delivered promptly and straight into my ears for a whole lineup of testing.

So how did they stack up? Well read on to find out.

NeoBuds Pro Just Got Better!

Coming in at around £129.99. These are most likely classed as mid-priced earbuds, so let’s see how featured pack they are?

Design

The Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 are beautiful! There I said it! In terms of looks, they are 10 out of 10 from me! Even the charge case is absolutely gorgeous! With its sleep LED strip with a customisable colour, glowing when it is charged or when the earbuds are in use. It is just a wonderful package to behold!

Even the lid looks awesome!

Moving onto the NeoBuds Pro 2 themselves. They sport a standard shape with rubber earpieces. Along with a decent array of replacement sizes, these will fit any ears, and boy, oh boy, you want them nice and snug to get the most out of the sound.

Overall, when it comes to design, these are up there with both minimalist beauty and sleek elegance!

Features

This is where it gets juicy. The Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 are feature-packed! Whether it’s the Active Noise Cancelling options or the Spatial Audio settings. There is something to get your teeth stuck into, so let’s take a closer look at the best features of these little beauties!

Active Noise Cancelling

Most of us know what ANC is and what it’s for, but what Edifier has done with the NeoBuds Pro 2 is something else! With their own Wide-Band Multi-Channel ANC, Edifier is looking to improve the existing feature, and they hit the spot. You can quickly flick between different ANC settings using the easy-to-configure phone app. Featuring Low, Medium and High ANC alongside Wind Reduction and Ambient Sound. Each worked incredibly well on a windy day. The Wind Reduction option worked seamlessly, masking the often horrid wind sounds.

Spatial Audio With Head Tracking

This was a new feature for me. I’ve had spatial audio on things like VR headsets but never on a set of earbuds. The Spatial audio gives you a realistic three-dimensional listening experience. The NeoBuds Pro 2 have a built-in Gyro and Accelerometer to track your head movements and adjust the sound stage depending on where you are looking. Whilst this may seem a little gimmicky, pop on a movie on your computer or phone, and it ramps up the immersion tenfold!

In fairness, these were the two stand-out features for me. Unfortunately, my listening apps don’t provide me the choice to check out the Hi-Res Audio built into the NeoBuds. The battery life was never an issue either. If the earbuds ever drop low, just pop them back in the charging case, and a quick 15-minute fast charge will give you 2 hours of playback time.

The sound quality was fantastic. As always, I quite often go straight for the movie soundtrack playlist and play through some Jurassic Park or Duel of the Fates to get an idea of the size that the earbuds can produce. Once that is listened to (and often wiping away the tears from my eyes), I listen to a variety of musical genres. From Hip Hop to Country, each genre helps indicate the balance of the earbuds. The Knowles Balanced Armature Driver and the digital signal processing allow the high and mid-low frequencies to produce rich sounds. And additionally highlights the precise details in the music.

Noise Interreference and Splash Resistance

Being IP54 rated gives them the added durability of being dust and splash-resistant, meaning if you are caught in a shower on your walk or run, it won’t matter. Even the simplistic setting of wear detection works great. Taking out the earbuds stops the music, and putting them back in starts up again. This is thanks to using an internal infrared sensor!

The only other bit to note is the microphone for calls. Now, I use the NeoBuds Pro 2 on my day jobs team calls. I never had any issues with anyone not being able to understand me or even background noise being too loud. This probably has something to do with the 4+4 microphones beam-forming algorithmic solution. It might also just be because the microphone quality is that high.

Overall, the Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 are a great set of earbuds. Along with sounding fantastic, they are feature-rich, and anyone looking for new earbuds would be silly to not have these on their list to check out.
