Death of the Reprobate is the follow up game to The Procession to Calvary from solo indie developer Joe Richardson. With the release of Death of the Reprobate on November 7th the Immortal John Triptych will be complete. Those unfamiliar with Joe’s work and who love Monty Python style humour really should rectify this immediately. And yes I am saying this because I am biased! The games are literal works of art. Renaissance art to be precise. And believe me, the juxtaposition of the art and the storyline makes the game all the funnier.
A Renaissance of Butt Jokes.
Immortal John is dying. As his last surviving heir, you have been summoned to hear his dying wish. A dying wish like no other…
Put simply Death of the Reprobate is a point and click adventure game about helping people and being a good person. Not so simply it is a game built from the luscious landscapes, turbulent townscapes and preposterous portraits of real Renaissance paintings where the story is never as it seems.
Now normally in one of these news pieces I would share the launch date trailer and we would all marvel at it’s new reveals. However in true Joe Richardson style, the launch date trailer is literally an unveiling of the date. With no insight into the game. So instead enjoy the previously released teaser trailer.
Game Features
- Pointing and Clicking – A traditional point and click interface, with a ‘verb coin’ interaction menu and a simple inventory from which you can drag and drop your preciously hoarded items.
- Renaissance Artwork – Renaissance, Rococo and even a hint of Romanticism, to be a little more precise. Hundreds of paintings, spanning hundreds of years, are all brought together into one consistent world.
- Classical Music – Music by Eduardo Antonello. Period appropriate music that adapts as the story progresses, recorded using real medieval/renaissance instruments.
- Standalone Story – Death of the Reprobate is set in the same world as Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary. However, whilst it features some recurring characters/themes, it can be played independently.
- Highbrow Buffoonery – Rest assured, while some of the jokes may be ridiculous, the puzzles make perfect sense! (or at least adhere to a consistent internal logic)
You can wishlist Death of the Reprobate on Steam ahead of it’s launch on November 7th.
