To find your local retailer head on over to the Mad Catz site.

Do you like buttons? Then this is the mouse for you!

To be honest, I had no idea Mad Catz had such an epic catalogue of products. I have seen them on many sites and on social media. However, when I delved into their site I was pleasantly surprised with their offering and price tags. The last Mad Catz product I personally owned was the Playstation 2 Dual Shock Steering wheel. I can safely say that it is still working as well! So join me in checking out a Mad Catz product for the first time in over 12 years!

Design

When it comes to design, The team at Mad Catz think outside of the box. One example of this is the thumb scroll wheel on the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+. The Mad Catz R.A.T series design is incredibly angular with a robot in disguise vibe. A mouse full of angles doesn’t sound appealing. However, the angular design ensures that it is fully ergonomic at the same time to ensure comfort at all levels of gaming.

Mad Catz unique bold and angular design, symbolizes a rebellious spirit and uncompromised performance, catering for the needs of the gamer who wants to be different.

The design team have really taken into account placement. Due to the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ having 11 buttons no matter where your next placement might be, it feels seamless moving to it. I thought the thumb scroll might be awkward. However, the shape and profile of the mouse really promote thumb movement around the chassis of the mouse. The Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ comes in two colourways, the one pictured and white. Due to the design, at times I did look at the mouse expecting to transform. Mat Catz slogan is “Dare To Lead” and I think we can all safely say that are sticking to it.

The Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ also has RGB throughout the mouse which we will cover further on. For those who like a nice premium braided cable, I can confirm this gaming mouse delivers for you with a 1.6M fibre braided cable. In terms of size, it looks large compared to other mice, however, it sits at 119 x 88 x 39 (L x W x H).

Functionality

Let’s first of all talk about the customisation of the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+. Physically you can adjust the palm rest as mentioned above to suit your grip type and hand size. This definitely allows for a more comfortable gaming experience. Not only that you can adjust the weight, these are also located at the back of the mouse. Personally, I didn’t need to adjust this at all

Customising your gaming experience with the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ also extends into the software you can download for it. As you can see below there is a heavy amount of changes you can do. Under programming, you can literally change how you want your mouse to function. If you are a streamer or like catching gameplay clips and don’t have a shortcut you can add this to your mouse, it could potentially double up as a stream deck in some ways due to the number of options available for this. Not only do you have the options for presets, you can also create custom Macros. Obviously, you can customise your R.A.T 6+ profiles and settings here along with changing the look of your mouse with the Chameleon RGB settings.

The Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ has a whopping number of buttons, as you have probably already noticed from the photos. It has 11 buttons for you to customise as mentioned above. Giving any gamer more than enough, if more than required for some. You can use these surplus buttons for any shortcuts to take your gaming experience to the next level.

As always I like to give the sensor a mention, after all, it does play a big part. Not only that, this can be a big thing for gamers who really know their tech. The sensor in the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ is the PMW3360, which is an optical sensor and has a DPI up to 12000. From an IPS perspective that stands and 250. And for the gamers rely on acceleration for their gaming this sits at 50G. Obviously the lower the G the quicker and more accurate you can be, however it does sit within the recommended range.

Compatibility And Grip

I have to admit when it comes to mice, there are so many that I have reviewed and loved. That I wouldn’t have bought otherwise due to looking potentially uncomfortable. The Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ is no exception, I think it looks uncomfortable. I was extremely excited to actually try it out. The mouse is quite low in profile and is full of edges. This doesn’t scream comfort to me in any way. However, with its adjustable palm rest, it actually sits perfectly in your hand. Due to this feature on the mouse, it opens the mouse up to all grip types for anyone who is right-handed.

Whether you are playing palm, claw or fingertip you can adjust the palm rest so it fits your gaming style perfectly. I tried all three grips types ensuring I adjusted the palm rest to suit and found that I had no aches when gaming. Not only that I tried the “hybrid” grips, for example, palm/claw and with the right adjustments again it worked a treat.

In terms of compatibility, from a user perspective, I would recommend that the user is right-handed due to the ergonomic shape the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ has. Now, this next sentence might upset some people that for some reason still choose to game on a MAC. The Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ is a Windows-only product and is compatible with Windows® 7, 8, 10.

Windows® 7, 8, 10

Final Thoughts

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when taking the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ for a test drive over the past few weeks. With all of its features and functionality, it gives most gamers more than they would ever need from a mouse. I have to say Mad Catz have really delivered with the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+. The hardware and software combination brings an absolute powerhouse to your hands with so many possibilities.

I can safely say I will be looking at other Mad Catz products in the future. It is also great to see that Mad Catz years down the line are still creating epic products for gamers. The only thing for me that would make this mouse even better would be the option for it to be wireless and still have the same performance. Having said that, It is still one of the best mice I have tried over the years. I award the Mad Catz R.A.T 6+ a Thumb Culture Gold Award.
