Gameplay
The story of Escaping Wonderland centres around Molly as she makes her way through the world of Alice in Wonderland. The goal is to make it through a series of puzzles, all the whilst helping Molly to her recover her memory. But there is a twist, is Molly really trying to escape from Wonderland? Or is Wonderland her escape?
The game features a variety of puzzles that do require thinking. Sounds obvious I know, but this game really does test your brain power. There is an option for hints but even when using this, there were still a few moments where I had to really think about how to solve the puzzle. Saying that, this is what I enjoyed the most about Escaping Wonderland. It can be challenging but this helps with immersion and means you can’t just coast through the game. You need to be fully present.
The collectibles were a neat addition too. I found myself thoroughly looking at every detail on the off chance I found one! I can’t be the only one who when faced with collectibles in a game needs to collect them all right? Gotta 100% the game!

The controls feel well done and polished and enjoyable for long time gamers to new comers. With the way the game is designed I never once felt any kind of motion sickness. As you progress the gameplay changes to switch between first person and third person perspectives. I really enjoyed this feature. As when you are in first person its for purely problem solving. Whilst the third person perspective is used when you need to move around. This use of different perspectives during different gameplay aspects made it easy to know what I should be focusing on.
As I mentioned I never once felt any motion sickness with this game, so if this is something you’re worried about, don’t be! You can also play Escaping Wonderland seated or standing as there isn’t much movement needed. Another VR win!
Graphics & Audio
Playing on a Quest 3 the graphics are truly amazing and colourful thanks to the art style. The attention to detail really captures the essence of Wonderland. Characters exhibit a range of animations that enhance there quirks and personalities contributing to the overall atmosphere. The music and voice acting is top notch. You can really tell the developers took their time in making everything sound perfect.

Longevity
Though the game is only about 4 to 5 hours long, I truly loved the game. So much so I was determined to finish the story. I do wish it was longer but at the same time the game felt just right. Especially as I don’t have all the free time in the world.
Final Thoughts
Whether your a fan of the original story or new to Wonderland the game provides a captivating journey. The story touching upon mental health was a really interesting take I hadn’t expected. I loved each and every puzzle too. There is very little to pick apart with Escaping Wonderland. You can tell the developers have really took there time to polish this game to give you the best experience. I recommend this game very highly and will definitely be giving Down the Rabbit Hole a try!
Escaping Wonderland gets the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
