Everyone in the gaming world knows who Ducky are, right? Not the cute little aquatic animals that can often be found floating in baths, of which I recently got a tattoo of. That’s a fun fact for you! Now did I get that tattoo because of my love for Ducky products or the cute animals? Who can tell? Anyways, we were lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the Ducky One X Wireless keyboard, and boy, it’s a delight.

One Ducky Is Just Enough

Before you go quackers, I’m going to get into the review, checking out the design features and giving some overall impressions of just what this keyboard can do for you and your setup.

Design Features

Available in either black or white, the Ducky One X Wireless keyboard will compliment any setup. It’s also available in two sizes. Either the full-size monster that this review focuses on, or a mini version offering no number pad, directional arrows or many of the other keys the full-size version gives. Whatever version you pick, you are getting the same build quality, the same features and the same experience.

So close.

Let’s talk about the structure; please note: incoming fancy words; the Ducky QUACK Mechanics+ are in action here. The seven dampening layers as well as gasket-mount design give this keyboard incredibly clean acoustics. Meaning that the typing sounds are noise-free. Now that doesn’t mean it’s completely silent, but there are no extra sounds. No pinging of the switch mechanism, no extra clicky clack when typing. Just pure authentic sounds.

Duckys Inductive switches in the One X, give precision and consistency. With a 0.1mm activation as a minimum, all the way up to 3.5mm. You can tailor the perfect setup for you! Just log onto the Ducky software site, and you can change those settings quickly and easily. Using inductive switches instead of the traditional magnet-based ones helps reduce the decay of the magnet strength over time. Ensuring a consistent and accurate profile for the time you have the keyboard. They are also incredibly power-efficient, adding to the value of the One X being a great wireless keyboard.

Getting closer.

Featuring versatile connection options, switching between a wired USB connection, 2.4GHz, or a Bluetooth connection is easy. If you choose to go wired, there is even a neat little storage place for the USB dongle. So whatever you need, you can get it with the Ducky One X Wireless Keyboard. One thing I will say, and it’s probably because of my very unique setup, the USB range wasn’t the best. Every now and again, I’d get a few repeated keys, basically as if I were holding down a key for a second or two. I moved the dongle around and found the perfect position, and then I never got that issue again.

App Ready

When you log into the app on the website. You get to have a play with plenty of settings, from the RGB style and look. All the way to the individual activation of specific keys. Whilst it’s not as comprehensive as some standalone software out there. Being web-based means that you don’t have to download any specific app that requires installation to use. Thus saving on system resources. Personally I think this is a great little touch from Ducky and one I hope other companies make use of.

Once you’ve played around and set up your Ducky One X Wireless just the way you like it, you can disconnect, and everything is saved onto the onboard memory. Meaning you can take your keyboard anywhere, and you can trust that your profiles are safe, ready for you to bounce into action.

Ahh, there we are.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely love the Ducky One X Wireless. It’s a solid and sturdy keyboard thanks to the seven dampening layers. With lovely keys to type on, they are so light and effortless. Featuring decent RGB effects as well as that versatile connection suite, it gives credence to the fact that this is a premium product. With a full RRP of £178.99, it isn’t a cheap keyboard, but one that will last you a long time.

Being the world’s first inductive keyboard as well gives Ducky a nice little edge over the competition.

The Ducky One X Wireless Keyboard gets the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
