Where Did It Start?
It all begins in 2013, with just three guys wanting to create something fit for the future. Paper posters are great and all. However, they do not withstand the test of time. Putting their heads together they created a metal poster. From here they created a vast number of designs for their store. This is where the story started and since then they have grown in product and in reputation.
It would be underestimating it if we said they have hundreds of designs in their store. However, it does feel like a never-ending scroll. There are so many designs and collabs available that it makes it hard to choose but it also means that there is something for everyone.
The one thing I always worry about when mounting pictures to the wall is getting all the tools out of the cellar. Displate has designed a solution where no tools are needed. You simply purchase a magnet mounting solution, use the sticky back pads and you are ready to rock and roll. I would say these are rental-safe, but do be careful and use your own judgement when it comes to mounting them.
Displate Club
If you are into collectables and love a good club, Displate has its very own. It is a paid membership, however, you do get back freebies and discounts. Not only this you get early access to limited editions. Usually, these bad boys sell out very quickly and they are always stunning. We checked out some of their previous releases and their Back To The Future plates are stunning.
Not only this, but you also get the toolset to create your own Displates which is also pretty awesome. They won’t be published in the store, however, you can create your very own, get them printed and show them off at home. Ideal if you have personal branding.
Final Thoughts
We had the honour of checking out a couple of Displates for the site. At first, you could be thinking, well it is just a metal sign. You can buy these at pretty much most local shops. However, Displates bring not just a metal sign but a high-quality print. The ones we see in shops today can have a subpar print or be part of an unofficial line of products. The printing methods used at Displate really bring the posters to life, with no off-colours or blurring. On top of this, they have partnered with countless brands to bring our favourites to the wall. Our favourites at Thumb Culture include Stranger Things, Power Rangers and obviously the TMNT.
