Soma – Underwater Madness

So lucky number 14 brings us to the deep depths and brave not only the cold water but all the nasties that come with being on an underwater research facility. As usual, if you are enjoying these little horror features then why not check out the previous day’s entry here. Also, why not check out what the rest of the Thumb Culture team are up to on social media.

Netflix & Chill. Soma style.

If you have ever seen the movie Abyss then you will know exactly what lies in store for you when it comes to Soma. Soma takes place on an underwater remote research facility that contains machinery which exhibits human characteristics.

Our main protagonist Simon Jarrett finds himself there under mysterious circumstances and embarks upon discovering its history while trying to make sense of his predicament and potential future. The game uses some inventory management and puzzle-solving as its key aspects. But it’s the creatures that you find aboard this underwater hell that make it the game it is.

While some may say that the creature designs are a little flawed. I honestly thought it was those flaws that gave Soma a certain charm among other horror survival games. What sets Soma apart from the rest is the absolutely brilliant story you play out. You are hooked from start to finish. While the game does offer a few jump scares. I think it’s the atmosphere of the whole place that does it for me. You just never know what’s going to happen next. If you want to know what happens next then I suggest you try out the game for yourself.
