Star Wars has been a part of our lives for over 40 years. The amount of content that has come from arguably of the biggest franchises in entertainment is astounding and video games have been a huge part of our pop culture. Here we are going to take a look at Star Wars Video Games That Need A Remaster.
Ever since the days of the Atari, there have been so many games released that is almost impossible to keep track of them. But every now and then a video game comes along and it captures our hearts and takes us to worlds unknown.
Here we take a look at some of the games that have been a part of the Star Wars universe and see which is worthy of a remaster or a remake. If you enjoyed this little article then why not check out some previous Star Wars stuff here. You can also catch up with what the rest of the Thumb Culture team is up to on our social media.
Star Wars Republic Commando
First released way back in 2005. Star Wars Republic Commando is a tactical first-person shooter. I suppose you could say this was a Microsoft exclusive as it was only released on the Xbox and PC.
Now I’m going, to be honest, and say I never played this back in the day as I never had an Xbox. But for years it has been a fan favourite and people have been looking for a remaster of a reboot of some form and well gamers have got their wish. An updated version of the game was released on April the 6th 2021 for the Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4.
Star Wars Battlefront II
Now everyone knew that this was going to be included here. One of the best Star Wars games to ever be released.
Another one was released back in 2005 (2005 certainly was the year for Star Wars games) Star Wars Battlefront II was released on every platform available at the time and they were all brilliant. This is a video game that if it was ported on a Tiger Handheld it would still be brilliant.
We have had the Battlefront games get done from EA and while they take the name Battlefront. They just don’t hold a lightsaber close enough to the brilliance that this game had. So many hours were not wasted on this gem and it also made online fun.
Star Wars Episode I Racer
When this game came out it took the gaming world by storm. Nobody was expecting a game based on a 10-minute scene to be such a huge hit.
Released in 1999 on once again almost every gaming platform imaginable. Star Wars Episode I Racer was a game that didn’t really need to exist but it did. A game about pod racing seemed like a train crash at first but it was for from that. The game had made such an impact that even now which is over 20 years. It has found a new fan base where there have been mods made to give you more gameplay. Just made a proper remaster, please.
Super Star Wars Trilogy
Maybe a little biased here but these were easily my favourite video game that has come from the Star Wars franchise.
Released from 1992 to 1994. The Super Star Wars Trilogy was released on the Super Nintendo. These games had it all. There were every fan’s dreams come true. Blasting away enemies with a lightsaber, playing as your favourite characters and ever doing some tie fighting space battles.
Known for its insane difficulty that made gamers rage as not many had the gaming grit to complete them. They certainly stood the test of time and are still worth playing to this day. Now only if these little beauties would get a remaster with some updated graphics it would be insane. Maybe even an extra difficulty level for the true Star Wars hardcore gamers.
Star Wars Empire At War
Not many Star Wars games adopted the strategy aspects of video games but Star Wars Empire At War made the bold step and it worked wonderfully.
Released in 2006 Star Wars Empire At War is more or less a sleeper hit with a cult following. A following big enough for a fan to remake the game using the latest graphics and it looks brilliant.
If a fan can take the time out to give it an update then I’m pretty sure the right developers can make bring some life back into this tactical strategy game that so many of us love.
Anyway, no matter what you do today whether it be watching one of the movies or playing one of the video games. Always remember May The 4th Be With You.
