I’m starting to lose count of how many sim games are released. And even when joking about an oddly specific one, it gets made. So with that, here comes a new sim preview from Sundust called Wild West Supermarket Simulator.
Fastest stock in the west, I just can’t keep them long enough.
It’s out now in early access on Steam. So grab your lasso and try to wrangle up some customers while I tend to the store.
Gameplay
Graphics & Audio
Wild West Supermarket Simulator isn’t winning any graphical awards, and the textures aren’t perfect, but I will give credit for the fact it doesn’t look carelessly thrown together like many of the latest simulators. Shadows and lighting look like some effort went into them, and the menu and UI are all appropriately wild west poster stylised. While the animation has the typical stiff simulator style to it, at least the environments and character models look like some thought went into keeping the theme.
The western background music, while a little old after a while, at least fit in with the game’s theme too.
Longevity
The gameplay loop is okay, and each day takes about roughly 20 minutes. For the amount of time you’re able to put in comes down to the individual. Progression, particularly when it comes to earning money, feels slow, so I can see that taking a good chunk of time in Wild West Supermarket Simulator. If players are looking to challenge themselves more, the other mode makes prices in-game more accurate to the times as possible.
Final Thoughts
Gameplay is what you’d expect from anything with “supermarket” in the title. But what stood out to me was the mini-games you’re able to do for new product licences. They offer a fun way of breaking up the normal day to day. Unfortunately, once you beat them, there isn’t a genuine need to do it again, maybe adding a minor cash reward.
I didn’t face any major issues while playing, besides one or two little bugs. Which were just objects clipping through walls or NPCs getting stuck. If you like the Wild West, then Wild West Supermarket Simulator might be up your alley. And the current early access build is very promising, more so compared to some of the other sims I’ve played.
