Voiding Bound is an Action, Adventure, RPG made in-house by Hatchery Games. This game brings in what feels like Pokémon. If you can play as them and roam around with the mutations that each species that the game has. With the area being a playground holding secrets and no boundaries unless gravity happens. Let’s collect the mutagens and start this review!
With the amount of eggs I’m collecting, I might as well start a egg farm.
Gameplay
Voiding Bound has us playing as the Wrangler. A person in a crew of 5 people roaming the galaxies to stop the spread of the infection that’s spreading among many other planets in the galaxy. However, the only things immune to the Legion’s parasites are voidlings. Furthermore, these creatures that we’re able to take and link up with to take over and attack the enemies we encounter. Luckily, we have the technology to help mutate and evolve them to help cleanse the evil in this world.
Each planet has two different species, and you’ll unlock up to nine creatures in total. Each is able to obtain elemental mutations that will help different factions. Basically, having two elemental weaknesses that sometimes have one element both factions are weak to. However, there are times when you’ll encounter two factions with four elements that cause a headache. Thankfully, I already bred and made some amazing voidlings that have the attack fire to wipe out any factions.
So, besides the combat, there is a good chunk of the game having you making your voidlings stronger. Having a gym, gathering elemental mutagens, and levelling up each species’ skill tree. However, if you’re ever going to do the breeding portion of the game, make sure to do it with level 20 voidlings. And don’t forget that you can add points into their attributes that work if you understand your voidlings’ needs.
Graphic and Audio
Now I know I’m going to sound weird, but I honestly love the designs of each and every voidling. Despite having nine to work with, my favourite and yet most used species is the Kwipeck. This creature looks like a Dodo bird that has a beak that reminds me of a speculum. I would advise avoiding googling if you don’t want to be mentally scarred by that information. Comparatively, the other species have close appearances to real creatures of this world with extra features and extra body parts.
Even the designs of the eggs resemble how, in the Pokémon show, each egg is unique and connects to the same species every time. Even with the gold and silver eggs can make some amazing-looking voidlings.
Besides the creatures and factions’ appearances, the different designs for each planet we visit and how the environment looks and feels. Evidently, each planet has its own gimmick that thankfully isn’t repeated, feels like a breath of fresh space. Now to the audio, each planet has its own OST that fits perfectly. Like a puzzle piece fitting with no push or give when connecting them.
Yet the part that I liked the most was the unique sounds made for each voidling. I’m curious if most of them are animal sounds that were slightly changed, or if they got different staff members to make sounds. Thankfully, I also like the sound of a mutual animal growl, which helps indicate that it’s time to reload your voidling’s power.
Longevity
The game took about a good 10 hours to reach the last planet and defeat the source of the parasites. But, holy mother of ducks, you should be prepared if you don’t. Because if you let your guard down, that boss is a real powerhouse. But, even if you beat the final boss, we can make our voidlings stronger than that. Thankfully, with the Void Strikes, we can get a catalyser that can make them even stronger.
I’m going to be playing more just to see how much higher I can go before needing to break the ceiling.
Final Thoughts
Voidling Bound is honestly a great game with some very creative combat for each voidling I collect. Getting gold eggs from time to time and hatching some unique voidlings even a completely god one. Eventually, I got to play each species at least once, but always returned to the same ones that have great combat mechanics. So, if you like creating the strongest little helper to help save the world and making glass cannons or tanks.
Then pick Voidling Bound when it releases. You can say you shouldn’t be avoidling a good time.
I give Voidling Bound the Thumb Culture Platinum Award
