With the recent release of the Netflix One Piece adaptation, merchandise for this popular show seems to be popping up everywhere. Which is great news for the anime fans! More mainstream merch means more for the collection! No longer do we have to savour the crumbs of the basement in Forbidden Planet. One Piece is taking over! It started with LEGO and now it’s the turn of the One Piece Luffy Cable Guys Controller Holder!
The King Of Pirates
Anyone wanting to get your hands on this before reading any further, I have some bad news. This is not an insta-buy I’m afraid. Simply because it isn’t even available to pre-order just yet! Yes, you’ll have to wait to spend your £29.99. But I do also have some good news. The EXG Pro website is allowing fans to sign up to get notified as soon as the pre-orders go live. Meaning you won’t miss out on this buccaneer. Unless you don’t sign up for the notifications of course…
Now let’s take a closer look at just why you don’t want to miss this new Cable Guys addition.
Design
This One Piece Luffy Cable Guys is officially licensed by Netflix and don’t we know it from the attention to detail. Dressed in his classic outfit, Monkey D. Luffy emanates his famous Straw Hat spirit. At 22cm (8inches) tall this is big enough to be sturdy without being too big. Whilst it is marketed as a controller holder it can be so much more than that. Controllers, smart phone, pens, pirate loot Luffy can hold it all for you! Don’t be worried about compatibility I did test this both with my Xbox controller and PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, both fit on comfortably, just not at the same time!
There is no fiddly packaging with this controller holder either, unlike some others. Whilst it is packaged securely in order to protect it, you can simply open the box and take it out. No faffing with tear away cardboard. No extra stickers to unpeel. No silly cardboard display stand we all know is going in the recycling anyway. Just straight to the product.
Treasure Trove
Cable Guys pride themselves on not only being useful but also collectible. For me this is particularly true of their mini Cable Guys range aka the Holdems. In terms of actual controller holders, I wouldn’t tend to agree. Afterall, you only need one holder per controller right?
Whilst I appreciate this is what the brand is all about, I actually found myself wishing this Luffy Cable Guys wasn’t a controller holder at all. The quality of the figure itself is so high, I would quite easily have had him on display without his servitude. Although, without the arms outstretched. Genuinely this product feels very different, in a very good way. Even when compared to the new Minecraft products within the same line.
Final Thoughts
This is one of the best quality and design Cable Guys products I’ve ever got hands on with. I haven’t watched the One Piece anime in a very long time, and I haven’t caught a minute to watch the Netflix show. Yet this figure took me right back to being a teenager and enjoying the characters all over again. I am genuinely hoping that EXG Pro diversify into just figures for the same price, because that would be amazing.
Whilst you may have to wait, if you’re confident you can’t live without help, this is the controller holder for you.
