Hot Wheels Infinite Rush – Switch 2 Review

If you were a fan of previous Hot Wheels games, then you will be very well relieved to know that Milestone have returned with a great addition. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush gives the little toys a chance to return into more of an open world. Racing around, causing chaos is the key action, in a world that is immediately familiar to those with small children. Releasing across all formats, we got thrown a Switch 2 key to get stuck into, and it was great to have high octane racing on the small screen.

Hotter than Hot Wheels

Featuring some iconic cars Hot Wheels Infinite Rush will give both a nostalgic feel as you play, whilst giving you thrills of super fast racing. Let’s dive in to see how its separating itself from other open world racers.

Gameplay

The first thing that you’ll love about Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is that the game is split into four distinct islands. Each one with its own personality, its own look and its own Hot Wheels experience. You start off in Wheelswood before moving onto Tentacle Bay, Gearville and Drifty Temples. Accessing each island is done by completing a specific number of race events and then you can access them from the airport. Simply race one of the many awesome cars available all around and find your own way. It is some of the most fun just racing around since Forza Horizon

Ready, Set, Go!

Travelling around the islands, you will discover over 150 different vehicles. All accessible through events, activities and challenges. Not only that, but you can find rare models along with some of the most iconic Hot Wheels cars ever released. Each vehicle is put into one of four classifications: Drifter, Speeder, Versatile and Titan. Each have their own races to take part in, which all go towards unlocking the next island, or getting towards that Rush Master. Effectively the boss of each island, so keep your eye out and take each one down to become the true Rush Master.

The races in Hot Wheels Infinite Rush are a lot of fun, and they spread over different race types. A quick race is just as it sounds, just get going, the alternative to that is the waypoints race. Go from point to point as fast as you can possibly go. If you want something a bit more fun, then the elimination races where the last vehicle standing wins are always a challenge. Smashing wheels gives you the permission to just smash into as much as possible. Then you have the time attack mode, pitting you against the clock, and then drift master, getting you sliding around each corner.

Even Sparkly Cars Go Fast!

Graphics & Audio

Playing on the Switch 2, it runs like a dream both in big screen and in handheld mode. The game looks great, it’s all plastic everywhere which makes the game massively enjoyable. Racing through the environments looks great, and even the little stops to enjoy the scenery and take a photo allow you to take a moment and enjoy everything that the game has to offer.

The sound effects on the game are adequate; there isn’t anything that is more than what you would expect to see in a game like this. Lots of vehicle sounds, as well as plenty of screeching tyres.

You’ll spend a lot of your time racing towards objectives

Longevity

If you are a completionist, then you will probably spend around 10 hours, depending on how fast aree. If you want to just fly through the main story, then it’ll only take you a few hours. It’s not a long game by any shot, but it is a lot of fun while you are racing around.

Final Thoughts

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is a great addition to the Hot Wheels franchise. Taking this to the open world gives it a great change to the normal system. With all the cars that are recognisable in the game, featuring Bone Shaker, Dragon Blaster and even Duck N’ Roll. Each one looks like it’s come straight out of the blister pack.
