All Will Fall – PC Review

There is a small shanty looking town built atop an ocean, with a variety of blue, red, green and orange paint across different areas. There are also cranes and windmills protruding from the building, and one section is falling off. There are three people hanging from their ankles on a bridge. On the right side there are three people on a makeshift raft, with a patchworks sail. The white text above them reads 'ALL WILL FALL', with a broken hook image hanging off the 'A'.

All Will Fall, is a city-builder where the world has sunken below sea level and we must manage our survivors. It was developed by All Parts Connected, and published by tinyBuild. A demo is out now for the game, and will be available on Steam.

Survive the harsh world.

Gameplay

The All Will Fall scenario Fresh Start does a great job at explaining the games’ mechanics, as most a play force a load of information all at once. We manage survivors needs, such as food, water, and happiness. The payoff for accommodating for their needs? Unlocking useful perks of course! Each group of survivor offers different perks. Workers can get increased carrying capacity, Sailors gain more movement speed, and Engineers unlock more productivity with jobs. To increase survivor their happiness you’ll of course need to add things such as decorations, leisure buildings or even a bar. Because we all know the way to cope with the fact the world is now underwater is by heading to the local pub, having a pint and waiting for it all to blow over. Or you could give your city dwellers more structurally sound homes to live in. It’s up to you.

The current island I am on.

New structures become available from the small lab once it is unlocked. The lab in All Will Fall, is used to research various new things, like the aforementioned structures. You can also get improved water collections, more storage, and even different boats, for different tasks. Since the main reason for the game is to survive the ocean, we must be cautious of the rising water. At times the oceans level will fluctuate to reveal more areas for us to further expand upon. And most of the time more materials to collect. All Will Fall show this by the mossy areas on the lower zones. Another cool thing is after a while the ocean lowers permanently for us to expand our survivors.

Events and weather effects

Events usually happen in these types of games, and All Will Fall is no different. These events occur randomly or sometimes triggered when survivors are upset. Although the survivor ones are more so you can make amends and deescalate a situation. I experienced a few events, with one being a kid who had lost their parents. While another, much darker one, involved an accident that in return made my people eat a fellow survivor. Just normal city builder things.

You can’t keep everyone happy.

A cool weather event I encountered in All Will Fall, was a Junknado. Which as its says on the tin, was a massive storm of junk being thrown around. From what I noticed it brings more materials for the player to gather in the water. It’s a good thing boats are easy to create.

Graphics & Audio

All Will Fall has a very simplistic style, excluding the art in the scenario cards. Despite its simplicity, it’s all very pleasant to look at, with small details, such as the animations of the ocean. The music is also incredibly chill and lounge worthy. The NPC’s also have a couple of funny voice lines here and there, sounding like the most optimistic stranded work force known to man.

Longevity

All Will Fall, offers a great amount of replayability, thanks to the various amounts of cities the player is able to make. So for people more on the creative side that will probably catch your attention. The game does offer 11 achievements to work towards as well. But like most city-builders, the amount of time you get is purely down to you.

A few scenarios for the player to do. You have to fulfil the requirements first.

Final Thoughts

I enjoy the steady pace with All Will Fall, but I still struggle a lot with the game. This I know this will improve over time, but getting water for my colony was the hardest so far. Building structures to reach new areas also becomes a challenge. Due to some areas being small and wood supplies dwindling early on. But I love that I always learn something new with each attempt I do. It is a fun game but nothing I have not seen before. It is just another premiere.

All Will Fall gets the Thumb Culture Silver Award. It’s fun but nothing breathtaking so far.
