Fature image for the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Ti AMP AIRO SPIDER-MAN™: Across the Spider-Verse. the background is a city scape with a blue overlay with Miles Spider-man Logo overlayed over that in red. In the foreground is the product box for the Graphics Card which features a seen from the movie with Spider-man 2099, Miles Spider-man and Spider-Gwen from left to right. To the right is the the front and back preview of the triple fan Graphics Card. On the front, the top and bottom fan have Spider-man 2099 logos and the middle fan has a ZOTAC logo. The Graphics card is grey with a blue to purple accent down the side. On the back is a backplate which features a scene from the movie showing Spider-man 2099, Miles Spider-man and Spider-Gwen from top to bottom.

The kind folks over at ZOTAC sent us over the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Ti AMP AIRO SPIDER-MAN™: Across the Spider-Verse… which I from here on out will refer to as the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti.

Now, I should preface this by saying that my system contains a Ryzen 5 5600, which while a great processor, will bottleneck the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti. As a result for some of the benchmarks, you may see diminishing returns or even lower frames at lower resolutions. For that reason, I will be seeing how the Graphics Card fares as a mid-range GPU.

The RTX 4070 Ti At A Glance

This variant of the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti is currently available on Amazon for a whopping £876 at the time of writing. Though to be fair, it isn’t the most expensive 4070 Ti. It’s roughly in the middle of the price bracket that you’ll find for 4070 Ti’s. But that’s still double the MSRP of the GTX 1070 Ti when they were released in 2017. Conversely, it will offer almost RTX 4080 performance, for less. So that’s something, I guess.

Prices aside, as per usual, ZOTAC have made a fantastic-looking card that performs well and doesn’t get too hot. Given that it’s a 2.5-slot card, at 307 x 125 x 58mm you’ll not be putting this in your SFF build. But in an ATX case and above, it should fit and look great. However, I would recommend ensuring that your case can accommodate this card before buying. The card utilises a 3 x 8-pin to 12-pin connection to help with your cable management and gives a more clean aesthetic to the finished build.

Specifications

The ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti is built on NVIDIA’s Lovelace architecture. This time around we get much better clock speeds when compared to the previous generation, due to the 4nm process as opposed to Ampere’s 8nm process. As a result, this card is over 800 MHz faster, when compared to its equivalent card from the previous generation. Additionally, it’s also less power-hungry. So this card should even help keep your bills down a bit.

Performance

At this point, we’ll get into the performance of the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti.

The system used to test the GPU:

Unigine Heaven Benchmark results
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy benchmark results
Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark results
GTA V, Forza Horizon 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins benchmark results

The Numbers Mason, What Do They Mean?

As shown above, 1440p is the sweet spot for the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti. As has been noted, in most games, you’ll see diminishing returns, or even lower frames at 1080p due to bottlenecking from the processor. Basically, you’d need a much better processor to make use of the RTX 4070 Ti at lower resolutions. Although at that point, you’ll have spent a fair wedge on your system and will probably have spent even more on a 1440p/4k monitor.

Obviously, there is a certain outlier. I’m looking at you GTA V. To be sure, I ran the benchmark for GTA V a dozen or so times at each resolution. Nevertheless, each time it gave me the same result. Although GTA V’s inbuilt benchmark tool is a little more chaotic than others, owing to the fact that the scenes aren’t as prescripted as other games, and will differ with each run, it didn’t matter. In effect, 167 FPS seemed to be the maximum I could achieve with this CPU/GPU combo.

Those reflections though

Another thing to note is the absolute game changer that is DLSS. Both Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy saw huge gains when DLSS was turned on. Although the former sees larger gains due to utilising NVIDIA’s newer DLSS 3. But considering it’s as simple as switching a setting, in the words of the great Tim Heidecker, “It’s free real estate”.

Final Thoughts

All in all, the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti is a card that stays cool and looks cooler. Overall it’s a solid performer that’s both faster and more energy efficient than its predecessor. But, at £876, it is a little bit difficult to recommend as a mid-range GPU. To repeat, you will see diminishing returns on lower resolutions and when an RTX 4070 non-Ti can be picked up for around £200 less, or an RTX 4060 Ti for half the price, they seem like a no-brainer. In reality, if you don’t have the system to back it up, you won’t really reap the benefits of the RTX 4070 Ti.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a fantastic card. In truth, if you have a good enough system to utilise it, the 4070 Ti will offer you almost 4080 performance for considerably less. Though, considering this card is basically the relaunched RTX 4080, that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Even so, I just wish GPUs weren’t so goddamn expensive.

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Ti AMP AIRO SPIDER-MAN™: Across the Spider-Verse Edition swings a Thumb Culture Gold Award for itself.
