Nickelodeon Kart Racers has been brought to us by the developers Bamtang Games and publishers Maximum GamesNickelodeon Kart Racers is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Today I’m going to give you the ins and outs from the PlayStation version.

Boats And Slime Are Great Fun

Gameplay

Nickelodeon Kart Racers is firmly aimed at the younger gamer. For this I have incorporated the assistance of my niece and nephew, as I feel their opinion on this game is far more relevant than that of a middle-aged man.

The gameplay for Nickelodeon Kart Racers is easily described as a kart racer just like Mario Kart or Sonic All Stars. Personally i think they offer a far more polished experience and are aimed for gamers of all ages. Nickelodeon Kart Racers however will have very little appeal to anyone over the age of around 10-12 years old. The menu screen is very plain although bright and colorful, is slightly confusing at times. Gameplay for me was very linear and every character in Nickelodeon Kart Racers felt exactly the same as each other.

Soaring Through The Sky In My Ermmmm Boat

My younger assistants however didn’t care about that at all, in fact they found the game to be fun and appealing. They loved racing round the track, especially as Patrick and Spongebob.  The game lacks an online multiplayer mode. I suspect this is purely due to the age of its targeted gamer. There are 6 cups available at the start, with a further 3 to unlock by winning the previous cups. There are several offensive and defensive pickups found scattered round each track, as well as coins also theres slime to collect for your boosts. Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a plain old simple pick up and play game for anyone who can hold a controller with an interest in Nick Toons characters.

Chalk Up Another Victory

Graphics

To be fair Nickelodeon Kart Racers has pretty decent graphics. Although originally I thought they were poor, until I referenced the cartoons and they are identical to their game counterparts. So in a nutshell, if you or your child are into Nick Toons then you will love the graphics for Nickelodeon Kart Racers.

Look Where Your Going

Sound

There are a few catchy tunes to be heard on Nickelodeon Kart Racers. Being a petrol head and sim racer fan, I felt the engine tones needed more meat on them but I’m not convinced Spongebob’s boat-shaped kart should sound like a Porsche. The one thing even my little helpers noticed is that there are no voices in this game. I mean none of the characters can speak, well actually they can but its all in speech bubbles at the bottom of your screen. Come on Bamtang Games, this is the 21st century and I’m sure that you could have added some voices to the characters since the game has the Nickelodeon license.

Hey Where Did Everyone Go??

Conclusion

As a kids game or a rainy Sunday afternoon with the family Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a good game. There’s some fun moments to be had seeing the smiles or hearing the giggles from the kids in the family while paying the game. Sure there is some work to be done, the game is far from perfect. The menus are horrible, the sound just isn’t that great, but it’s not a terrible experience. So while I go find the secret recipe for a Krabby Patty (see I have learnt something) I will award Nickelodeon Kart Racers  a Thumb Culture Bronze Award.
