Ok, so it’s no secret that I adore Maestro, the orchestral rhythm game developed by Double Jack with help from development partner Wild Sheep Studio. We covered the main game back when it released in October last year. Giving it the TC Platinum Award in the process. We then covered the Secret Sorcery DLC pack as well. Handing out another TC Platinum Award. Can you guess where this article is going to end? Like a trip to Mount Doom it’ll end with something shiny. I present the Doom Bound DLC to you!

So just what is new in the Doom Bound DLC? Read on to find out. And when you’re done head to the Meta Store to pick it up.
Gameplay
Starting up Maestro again is like coming home to a familiar face. This time though, it was to sample the incredible music of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Heading into the game, I checked out the track list to start with. And in case you’re curious too, here it is:
- Main Theme (Game of Thrones) by Ramin Djawadi
- The Bridge of Khazad-dûm (The Lord of the Rings) by Howard Shore
- Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach
- Totentanz (up to minute 4) by Franz Liszt
- Symphony No. 10, 2nd Movement by Dmitri Shostakovich
As you can see, there are some heavy-hitting tracks there. With The Lord of the Rings, one being over 5 minutes. However, the songs aren’t the only new addition! There is also a whole new venue to play in, featuring a giant flaming Viking-style character. That’s not all! Don your orchestra in some appropriate clothing, and even change your lovely white gloves for some gritty gauntlets.
Honestly, I can’t tell you how much I love Maestro, and the Doom Bound DLC just adds more depth. Creating an experience that I honestly have never felt in a VR game before.
Using the hand tracking of the Meta Quest 3 just increased the immersion. Throwing natural gestures and hand movements engross you in the music. To the point where if you make a mistake, you are genuinely upset that you’ve let your orchestra down.
Graphics & Audio
The extra bits of the DLC all just add to the incredible atmosphere that Doom Bound creates. With new outfits for your orchestra, a new baton, and new gloves, you are ready for everything. With the incredible venue as well. Although I was surprised by the hanging skeleton behind me. Thankfully, the game knows this, check out the image below.
The music tracks are incredible; they are all epic, and I dare you not to want to turn your volume to maximum.
Longevity
If it’s just playing on your own, or trying to get the top score on the leaderboards. There is plenty of gameplay time not only in Maestro as a whole, but in the Doom Bound DLC. I find myself going back to the game very regularly, even if it’s just to play a couple of the awesome tracks.
Final Thoughts
It’s fair to say that I am a fan of anything that gets added to Maestro. The Doom Bound DLC is no different. It adds music from some amazing cinematic experiences as well as some other classic tracks. Honestly, I am so excited to see what comes next. Maybe some more movie soundtracks? I’d love a John Williams DLC pack please.
