Sony has released pictures giving us a first look at the Playstation 5 DualSense Controller. However, I don’t think it has had the impact they were hoping for.

Let’s dive in for a closer look!

The DualSense Camisole Edition

When looking at the DualSense, two things immediately jump out at me. Firstly, the controller is a dual colour design. Usually, we see a one colour sleek controller and to be honest, it looks like the controller is wearing a cami. Secondly is the design, I personally feel that front on it looks like a next-gen Xbox controller.

From the side, the controller does look a lot more reminiscent of a classic DualShock controller. You can see that the controller has more depth to it as from the front it looks quite flat. This is definitely a better view of the DualSense, which makes me think that it could be the forward-facing picture that does do this controller any justice.

DualSense Side View

With all that been said, I am intrigued to see how the DualSense feels, as Sony has mentioned they have tested the controller extensively. Although I am not sold on the look, I am now interested in how ergonomic it is. I am looking forward to getting my hands on it despite not been sold on the design.

Here is what Jim Ryan (President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment) had to say:

“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”

So the question is, now we have seen the controller what are we expecting from the console? I am excited, but at the same time concerned. Many people do look at design aesthetic, This might sound shallow but it’s sometimes true. Let’s hope for a design that makes the DualSense make sense!
