Arcade Tycoon Preview – Come Push The Buttons

Developed by Squidpunch Studios, Arcade Tycoon is an Early Access management sim in which you take control of and maintain an arcade. I'm not usually one to look at early access games for review, however, lately I've been curious about giving this type of a game a try, so what better opportunity than to take one for a review spin. Arcade Tycoon released on Steam's Early Access program back in September and it was pretty bare-bones at the time, So I figured I would give the devs the chance to put some more content into it before I tackled the write-up. So let's get in and see where it's at right now. Gameplay Arcade Tycoon has a very simple gameplay model. It is a management simulator set in an arcade. You start the campaign by selecting a building, then start purchasing arcade machines i...

Overpass Review – Mud, Glorious Mspoud!

Every time I hear the word off-road I immediately think of the Off-Roaders from the Fast Show (showing my age again) and mud. Lots of mud. This winter has provided lots of the latter and the prospect of reviewing an Off Road game sounded a bit like my daily drive to work at the moment. Overpass has been billed by Swedish developers Zordix AB and publishers BigBen Interactive as unique in its genre offering a realistic take on off-road driving with over 20 officially licensed quads and buggies to be driven over technical obstacles along wilderness tracks. So does Overpass deliver on the dev's promise? Well, as they said in the Fast Show "Lets off-road"!   Gameplay The opening menu offers four basic game modes - Quick race, Career, Custom challenge and Multiplayer. Quick race i...

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition Review – Heaven or Hell?

Fans of the hack and slash genre have enjoyed a slew of games over that last decade and now, icons such as Bayonetta are inherently linked with the genre. However, over the last year, Capcom decided to re-introduce the architect of the genre: Dante. On the back of the success of the fantastic Devil May Cry 5, Capcom has re-released the classic, and long considered the best hack and slash game: Devil May Cry 3, but will it evoke the inner demon or should have it been left back in 2005? Gameplay Acting as a prequel to Devil May Cry, this makes the game easily accessible to new fans of the franchise. Although the narrative isn't the game's selling point, it does tell an engaging story with incredibly slick action sequences and one-liners that have been taken straight out of a classic...

Metro: Last Light Review – Going Underground

After the success of Metro 2033, a sequel was inevitable. And in 2013, 4A Games created Metro: Last Light. It was a notable for a couple of reasons; unlike the first game, it was an original story in the Metro universe, and it was the first time PlayStation owners could get their hands on the franchise. During development, plans were in place to release a version for Nintendo's Wii U, but, ultimately canned. Since then, the Metro games have been ported to everything. And now, Nintendo fans can finally get this hands on the series as Metro Redux releases for the Switch on February 28th. For those jumping in at the start, you can find Phil's impressions of Metro 2033 here . If you want to find out if it's worth braving another dose of radiation, then carry on reading comrade. Game...

Metro 2033 Redux Review – Back in the USSR (well, Russia)

The Metro series originally hit the Xbox 360 and PC back in 2010. The Metro Redux collection brings together 2033 and its 2013 sequel, Last Light, to the Switch. My colleague Rich is tackling the latter game, with his review here. How does Metro 2033 Redux hold up in 2020? Read on to find out. Metro 2033 Redux takes place following a nuclear conflict that has rendered much of Earth uninhabitable. In Moscow, many of the surface dwellers took shelter in the city's expansive metro system and began to form into communities centred around each station. You take on the role of Artyom, a man who has spent most of his life in "Exhibition" station. Life in the station is quite peaceful, with music and laughter filling the tunnels. Unfortunately, all that is soon to change, as a growing threat fr...

Hunt: Showdown Review – Spine Chilling Evilness

Is it safe to come out now?  For the last few days, I have been playing a multiplayer survival horror called Hunt: Showdown by Crytek on the PS4 and boy have I jumped out of my seat a few times in the process! Gameplay In a nutshell, Hunt: Showdown is what would happen if you blended Van Helsing, The Walking Dead and elements of The Darkzone from The Division into one and mixed them with some 1895 Louisiana inspired countryside. Your core mission is to play as a hunter and track down mysterious bounties either by yourself, in a duo, or even a trio by investigating areas in your world that emit a strange glow that can only be seen while using a mysterious energy called Dark Sight.  For every bounty there are 3 locations in the world that you need to explore that contain a pile of e...
