If you haven’t read the EGX day 1 summary then head over to here and have a quick read…go on it’s ok, I can wait….

Welcome back!

Now it’s time for the summary of Day 2, as the previous article it will be a short summary of the days events, purely so that you get a flavour for what EGX is all about. So let’s get stuck in with the first game…

Raging Justice

When I received the press release for Raging Justice is instantly reminded me of classic side-scrolling beat em ups such as Street Of Rage and Double Dragon, but with a really nice claymation style to the game. You can imagine my excitement when I took control of the game and it was EXACTLY what I expected.

MakinGames is made up purely of Anna and Nic and after speaking to them both you can see exactly why they wanted to make this game. Pure passion for the genre, and want to bring a game you could quite easily pick up and play for 5 minutes now and again, or you could quite easily play the game for a couch co-op session with friends.

The gameplay was straight forward, punch, kick, kick, punch, jump, jump-kick, grab, pick up a fire hydrant, throw said fire hydrant. Rinse and repeat. There are other aspects to the game which allow you either perform as a good cop or a bad cop and that decision is totally down to you.

So the day started off well and it really did carry on in that same vain with the next game…..

Mantis Burn Racing – Nintendo Switch

Having played Mantis Burn Racing before and also creating a video review for the game which you can watch here.

Voofoo Studios had two switch consoles running the game, one of a big screen and then one on the handheld itself. The main screen version was running at 30fps while the handheld version of the was left as a dynamic fps and you could really tell the difference.

At the stand they were running a beat the time competition where anyone who beat the time would win a t-shirt. So I sat down and accepted the challenge. Needless to say that I managed to beat the time and win a t-shirt branded with the game title on.

If you haven’t played the game yet, then you really should give Mantis Burn Racing a try. Also it is one of the few games that actually run at native 4k resolution on the PS4 Pro.

Heading away, wielding our lovely tees we headed over to the Wired Production area for a nice chat and was introduced to….

Vostok Inc

The game has been out for a little while, but only recently got a release on consoles, and was being shown off on the Nintendo Switch at EGX.

Taking the game description from the Steam listing, it reads as follows

The Wolf of Wall Street… with lasers. You’re the newly appointed CEO of Vostok Inc. As a greedy, space-capitalist your ultimate goal is to get filthy stinking rich! Pilot your own ship and blast your way through the solar system and collect moolah to help profit your company!

This game was totally tongue in cheek and designed as a game you can play whilst having a poo. (the devs words, not mine) It was great fun and it worked so well on a handheld console. It’s available on the Vita so hopefully, I can get some more game time with it soon and be able to provide a full review for you to read more details about the game.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Being a massive Star Wars fan and enjoying the first game immensely I stood (and sat) in the queue for around 90 minutes to play this game. Which i’m afraid to say left me feeling a bit underwhelmed.

Don’t get me wrong, it was great fun to play and the game was great to play, but it left me feeling a little…meh. It was almost like a DLC for the first Battlefront. Its a difficult one to explain as I don’t want people thinking that I felt the game was rubbish as it wasn’t but there was just something about it that felt too familiar.

Obviously, the game isn’t released yet and hopefully there will be a few more game modes and maps to set it apart from the first iteration of the game and I really hope that it causes me to have egg on my face and eat my words.

This is a game that I really want to like and really want to be getting super hyped about, but at the moment I just can’t….sorry.

After playing on Battlefront II it was time to re-visit some games that we played yesterday and try and get on them again. So off we set for Strange Brigade and Lightseekers, and neither of them disappointed.

Strange Brigade was once again a charm to play, choosing a different character this time the three of us set out to beat the developers time of ten minutes and we absolutely smashed it. By 2 minutes! Into our SWAG bag went a nice commemorative coin.

We then popped over to the Lightseekers stand, took a load off, and set to work trying to defend my honour from being beaten yesterday. It didn’t go well and that is all I am going to write about that!

So onto our SWAG bag that we managed to get, we had goodies from Project Cars 2, Strange Brigade, Lightseekers, Bomber Crew, Stickers and flyers from a multitude of games, and more! So this ends our summary coverage of EGX 2017, we aren’t there at the weekend, unfortunately, hopefully, next year we will be able to have a presence through all four days.

Take care for another year and keep checking back to the site and the social media channels to see more reviews and previews coming soon.

Thanks for reading.
