Snooker Nation Championship PS4 Review

After 2 weeks of Snooker on our Televisions we reach the epic conclusion of another World Championship, this left a question in my mind as it does every year: What am I going to do when it's finished? Cherry Pop Games have brought us Snooker Nation Championship to try and fill this void. The question is will it live up the expectation or will crumble under the pressure of the gaming Crucible? Gameplay Snooker Nation Championship is a fairly bare-bones version of a snooker game when compared with other releases both past and present, that’s not to say it isn’t a good or fun game. There are 3 main modes of play, Championship, Online and Versus mode. All of which are similar, but then again this is snooker so how much different should they be? On top of this, you have a practice mode,...

Snooker 19 PS4 Review – Pot as Many Balls as you Can!

It’s been 8 years since the last ‘official’ snooker game crossed our tables with WSC 11. While it wasn’t perfect, it was a decent enough game. Given the amount of time that has passed, the announcement of Snooker 19 was met with a lot of expectations and excitement among fans of the green baize. As someone who has been a huge snooker fan for over 25 years and has played almost every snooker game since the Commodore 64. I have been counting the days for this game since it was first announced, and there is a simple reason why… Lab42 have worked alongside World Snooker to bring us what could be the most complete entry ever seen, the top 128 players all included, all the official tournaments and venues from the circuit as well as the first appearance of Jimmy White in an ‘official’ snook...

Shadowgate PS4 Review – A Modern Day Text based Adventure

I’m sure any of the older gamers amongst us will know Shadowgate from the original iteration back on the NES. Well, Zojoi Studios have updated the classic text-based/point & click RPG for modern day gaming. Being completely honest, this one completely flew under my radar and the first I heard of it coming to PS4 was when it appeared for us to review it. Classic text-based games such as Zork were a big part of my childhood, along with the old choose your own adventure books (for any of you that remember those). So I was more than happy to jump on board and do the review (even though I didn’t play the original on the NES). Does Shadowgate do justice to the 80’s classics? Are text-based games still relevant in a gaming world that contains big open world RPGs like Skyrim and The Witc...

Beat Cop PS4 Review – I Am The Law!.. Well Sort Of..?

Beat Cop is the newest release from Pixel Crow. It's very much a Police themed time management game where you take on the role of Jack Kelly, a disgraced Homicide Detective reduced to a ‘Beat Cop’ while trying to clear his name of a murder he didn’t commit. Set very much in the 80s, Beat Cop aims to take players through the world of those classic cop shows we all know and love (or at least those old enough to remember them); Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues etc. The biggest question; does Beat Cop fill that nostalgic void of a time long past? Or, does it fade into the background like those '80s shows that no-one remembers (Hollywood Beat anyone?). Gameplay Right at the start of Beat Cop as the game is loading, you are greeted with a screen explaining how the game is based on 80's cop ...

Dead or Alive 6 PS4 Review – King of the… Oh Wait!?

Dead or Alive 6 is the latest in a fairly long running franchise from Team Ninja. Personally, I don’t have too much experience with this particular series, however, I am a big ‘Beat’em up’ fan so when given the chance to review this I was looking forward to it. Everyone knows the DOA games, however not necessarily for the fighting, it has a somewhat rough reputation as ‘oh the one with the bouncing breasts’ which, while true enough is a little harsh in my opinion (at least going into the review). The Developers did make it clear that Dead or Alive 6 would be a much more serious entry into this genre and offer more in the lines of competition and less ‘jiggle’ mechanics. So, does this game offer more than a little titillation? Let’s find out… Gameplay Dead or Alive 6 is split int...

Spike Volleyball PS4 Review – A Real ‘Dump’ of a Game?

Spike Volleyball is the latest entry in the sports line-up from the team that gave us Tennis World Tour; Big Ben Interactive. Now I’m not going to claim to be a volleyball expert, I think the only time I have ever watched a real Volleyball match was during the 2012 Olympics. My expertise of this sport is firmly within the realms of Tekken Ball back on the PS1 (Yes, I played as Gon the little Dinosaur wearing Boxing Gloves) That being said, I was open minded to a more realistic volleyball game and thought it could be interesting, so here we are all ready to do a review… Gameplay As soon as the game loads up it throws you into a tutorial game giving you the very basics of how to play, I needed this as I mentioned I have no experience with Volleyball as a sport so any help was ver...

Kingdom Hearts 3 PS4 Review: A New Light after 14 years of Darkness?

Kingdom Hearts 3 is the latest in a line of releases from Square Enix, and the first completely new full title in the series since 2005. Being completely honest, back when the first game was released in 2002, I was just finishing up my A-levels and heading out into the real world, so I didn’t have much time for a ‘Disney game’ (or that was my mind-set at the time). When Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced and the buzz around it started to happen it intrigued me and resulted in me purchasing the PS4 HD remastered collection just before Christmas in a bid to catch up ready for its release (that and I had a feeling I might be doing a review). I only managed to get through the first game, due to time constraints and other reasons, but it did make me realise that I should have given this serie...

Big Crown: Showdown Review – Furious Family Fun

So, leading up to the holiday season I was given Big Crown: Showdown to review. This is the new release from Hyper Luminal Games Ltd. How does it hold up under the scrutiny of my Festive Spirits (Yes, I meant Plural… as I always mix my spirits), let’s find out... Gameplay Big Crown: Showdown is a purely multiplayer party-brawler, designed for up to 4 players (either online or Couch Co-Op). Each person takes on the persona of a Knight (or a member of the Grumblegard as they are known in this world). The challenge… To collect as many coins as possible while punching your opponents away or off the edge of the levels. It really is as simple as that, and the controls are equally simple, three buttons (Punch, Block & Jump) and the Analogue stick to move around. After a conversa...

10 Tips to become a Gun Wielding Legend in Red Dead Redemption 2

After spending just over a week playing through the latest release from Rockstar, It became pretty obvious that there are a whole bunch of things that in my opinion should have been in the tutorial but just weren’t for some reason. So we decided we would put together a little article with a few hints and tips to help those of you that are struggling to work out some of the more hidden functions as well as just some general advice. Note: This isn’t a place where we’re going to tell you where to find Legendary Animals etc. That would be cheating! Note: Any controls that I mention below will be based on the PS4 version as this is the version that I own, I would assume that it will be the same on other versions however the buttons may be different.   Cinematic Camera Wh...

Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Review: A Legendary Gunslinger?

Not that I need to do a formal introduction here, I doubt there is a person alive who hasn’t at least heard about this coming out, but to appease the gaming gods (and the boss man) here it is: Red Dead Redemption 2, the latest addition to the Rockstar Games Wild West Franchise takes us back into the world of John Marston and Dutch Van Der Linde. This tale however, is told back in 1899 before the events we know from the original Red Dead Redemption. I’ve seen all the hype and rave reviews of 10/10 etc. spread across the internet and gaming media for this release, but I have my own views which to be honest I’m not sure everyone is going to like (but I might be wrong). So let’s find out if this truly is ‘the greatest game of the year’. Gameplay Red Dead Redemption 2 brings us back int...
